The killing was wrong, I'll grant you that. Yeah, the bombs, too. It's also impolite to seriously injure your classmates. Right. Don't try this at home, kids.
But another crime was commited there, and one that our news sources are too busy aiding and abetting to ever think about reporting.
The rule is simple: If ever your life becomes so worthless that you're willing to throw it away, with or without including bystanders, don't drag the people and things that you love down with you. In this case, the offense appears to have been against KMFDM (serious!), Marilyn Manson (eh... no big deal), Hitler (no loss there) and perhaps goth culture. (I still can't figure out from the newsbabble whether the kids even called themselves goths... I have known goths who didn't scorn MM, but the Hitler part makes me think NO.)
So repeat with me the Parallax Pledge:
"I'm never going to go off the deep end and kill myself or others but if, just if, I did I would blame COUNTRY MUSIC. I would scream, as they dragged me away kicking and bleeding, that Garth Brooks had made me do it. And just in case I wasn't able to scream at the end, I would take care to have in my pocket a signed picture of a country and western star wrapped around a well worn confederate battle flag pin. Before I ever went on my rampage, I would take care to eliminate all signs from my life of whatever music I actually do like. I would not dress in such a way as to be associated with any group that I hold in any esteem. I would keep dog-eared Martha Stewart publications with my bomb-building materials, not The Anarchist's Cookbook. So there."
Whew. Don't you feel better now? I do.
Hey! Does this mean we're a cult?
